Inexpensive Costume Ideas

Many families are really feeling a financial squeeze, and while they may be able to afford your weekly classes, they may be deterred from enrolling because of the cost of costumes, jazz shoes, and even a baton.  If you live in an area where families are struggling, consider adding a no-cost or low-cost costume option.  Here are some ideas for a low-cost costume.

  1. Use a tank top and black leggings.
  2. Use a studio or team t-shirt and black leggings.  Bonus: the kids will wear your t-shirt, and you'll get free advertising.
  3. Choose a theme or song that allows them to use clothes that they may be able to buy themselves.  For example, a train-themed song, and they can wear overalls and have a red shirt.  Or, a country-themed routine, and they can wear jean shorts and a plain t-shirt.
  4. Have parents find a dance costume at a thrift store. Will they all match? No, but sometimes that can be fun, too, having everyone in something different.

Use your creativity to help parents and create opportunities for children who may not be able to join the sport otherwise.
